A retrospective study of 235 ENT operations performed between 2001 and 2010 at Jos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, found 41 cases of tracheostomy, representing 17.4% of total ENT operations. Patients ranged in age from one month to 70 years, with a mean age of 33.2 +/- 20.3 years. The most ties were seen in the age groups of 20 to 29 years (n = 9), followed by those aged 40 and older.
