The pediatric proximal femoral nail, PediFIN, was developed by focusing on the general principles of intramedullary nailing and the potential for pediatric application. The nail is specifically tailored to the anatomy of the proximal femur in children and adolescents. The goal of PediFIN is to maximize stability when treating a fracture or conversion osteotomy.
Stability fixation - Determination of stability
The geometric design of the nail and the positioning of the locking screws maximize the stability of the construct. One of the proximal screws is placed in the femoral neck and another in the calcar bone.
The proximal part of the nail features a hexagonal cross-section to increase rotational stability and reduce stress on the locking screws.
