NEW: BAV Institute checks the marketability of cosmetic products

Before a cosmetic product is placed on the market or on the shelves, a so-called marketability test is often carried out and an associated marketability certificate (VFB) is issued.

All cosmetic products that are placed on the market in Germany or the EU must meet the strict requirements of VO (EG) 1223/2009 (EU Cosmetics Regulation). They have to be safe and harmless to health for the consumer.

In addition to the creation of a safety report by a safety assessor, a product information file (PID) is also required (English: PIF = product information file). The PGD includes, among other things, a description of the cosmetic product, the safety report and the manufacturing method under the aspect of good manufacturing practice (kGMP). Evidence of the advertised effect and data on animal experiments are also listed.

The microbiological quality (requirements of ISO 17516) and the quality with regard to possible chemical residues such as heavy metals, PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) and solvent residues are checked specifically for each individual product. Furthermore, the consumer expects a product which in terms of use, appearance, smell and feel corresponds to how it is labeled and advertised. This is also checked by our experts as part of the included labeling test based on the regulatory framework of the Claims Regulation VO (EG) 655/2013.
