Manual electric chemotherapy (CEA) is a newer treatment for skin cancer. It is a day-patient procedure, although patients sometimes require an overnight stay in the hospital. The process requires a local or general anaesthetic, and the patient may be given a sedative for comfort. This therapy is performed in an outpatient setting. There are many side effects, but the most common is pain. During the treatment, patients are awake.

ECT is not a suitable treatment for all types of skin cancer. The risks are relatively low, but it can cause skin ulcers. The procedure does not involve surgery, and patients will need to recover for a few weeks. However, it can effectively control symptoms of advanced skin cancer and is effective in treating early bladder and body cavity cancer. While there are several potential side effects, ECT is not without its benefits. It has also been used successfully in the treatment of a variety of cancers.

Electrochemotherapy is safe and effective. It can be used to treat a variety of malignant lesions. Various lesions require different electrodes and individual pulse generators. The size of the tumor is crucial to achieving successful treatment. Large metastases may not respond to chemotherapy due to inadequate blood perfusion. Additionally, ECT is more efficient in treating a small number of cancers. This treatment is an excellent alternative to systemic chemotherapy and can help patients recover faster.

The technique is based on a process called electroporation, which involves introducing drugs to the bloodstream through the body through a needle. The needle is inserted into a vein and removed immediately. The catheter is left in the patient's body. The duration of the treatment may vary, ranging from a few minutes to a few hours. The drug solution flows from a bag attached to the plastic catheter via tubing. The IV pump controls the flow of the mixture through the tubing.

Intravenous chemo is put into the bloodstream through a small plastic tube. The catheter is inserted into a vein and is left in place. Some types of chemo drugs are injected into the bloodstream, while others can be administered through the catheter. They can last from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the severity of the cancer. The electrodes are attached to a tubing that leads to the patient's arm.

The treatment lasts several hours. During the chemotherapy, patients are instructed to take a light meal or snack prior to their treatment. A few hours before the chemo, some of which are intense, may be necessary. It is important to have a small lunch before treatment. Some larger centers offer lunch, so bringing a cooler and insulated bag with you will allow you to stay fed and hydrated. Most large facilities have refrigerators and microwaves, so you can heat up food and keep it cool during the chemo.
