Laboratory microplates

Laboratory microplates

A wide variety of microplates are available, each with specific properties and applications. Tissue culture-treated microplates are coated with a hydrophilic material that promotes cell growth. These plates are now manufactured in a wide range of shapes and sizes. The manufacturing process involves injection molding, which is appropriate for various materials. Parts of a composite material are molded separately and assembled once they have been cooled and set. In recent years, microplate technology has spurred an entire industry to develop a range of supporting products. In modern companies, these products are produced using sophisticated robots.

Using a microplate that resists nonspecific protein adsorption is an effective method of high-throughput screening. The type of microplate that is used depends on the desired results. In high-content screening, for example, microplates with V-bottoms are recommended. For labeling suspension cells, a U-bottom microplate is recommended. A V-bottom microplate is ideal for higher-throughput flow cytometry experiments.

A recent development in the field of microplates has allowed researchers to analyze whole live cells. These products are referred to as tissue culture treated microplates. The surface of these plates is treated with oxygen plasma discharge, a technique that makes it more hydrophilic, which allows adherent cells to grow. This technology has increased the reproducibility of experiments and reduced the cost of batch testing. So, if you are looking for an easy-to-use, reliable method of protein analysis, plasma-treated microplates are your best bet.

The selection of the microplates is not an early step in the experimental design. Depending on the cell model, the microplates may be different from those that can be sustained in a conventional cell culture plate. Some cells may be miniaturized and cannot be grown on conventional microplate materials. HCS applications categorize cell models as ex vivo, suspended, or adherent. Additionally, some cell types may require growth enhancements such as growth factors or ECM.

The first microplates were very basic, low-tech, and inexpensive. They were used for dilution and serial dilution. In the 1950s, they were widely used in biomedical research. Today, they are used in nearly every laboratory. Many modern applications rely on microplates in biomedical and medical fields. You'll never get by without them. They are indispensable. You can use them in a wide variety of tests, including those that use ex vivo samples.

The most common types of microplates are rectangular microplates with a square or circular design. Their wells can hold tens of nanolitres or several milliliters of liquid. In addition to liquids, they can also be used for dry powder storage. If you are not using them for research, you can purchase them for experimentation in a laboratory. In contrast to a typical microscope, a microscope can detect the differences in molecules and chemical compounds in thousands of different samples.
