PET / CT scanner

PET / CT scanner PET / CT scanner, PET / CT machine, positron emission tomography scanner, computed tomography scanner

A PET CT scanner uses radiopharmaceuticals to identify the presence of cancer. The scan can determine the cancer's stage, which is a description of where it's located, how it's spread, and how it affects body functions. The information can help doctors decide what treatment will work best for a patient. This type of scan also helps predict the patient's survival. Here's what you should know about getting a PET CT scan.

The PET-CT scanner resembles a giant donut, and the table slides back and forth through a hole in the center of the donut. During a scan, a staff member monitors the patient's position while the test is going on and can ask questions. A staff member will be present during the procedure and may answer questions. The technician will explain the procedure to you so you know what to expect.

Once the technician is ready, a nuclear medicine technologist will explain the process to you. After you're asked to change into a gown, the technician will insert a needle into your vein. An intravenous line is a thin plastic tube that will be used to inject liquid radioactive material. A brief medical history will be taken to ensure the correct method of scanning and to aid in image interpretation. A blood sugar level check will be performed before the PET scan so that the operator can accurately estimate the blood glucose level.

The PET-CT scanner uses short-lived radionuclides that reduce the radiation exposure to the patient. It is used in the treatment of cancer. The radiation dose is much lower than that of a traditional CT scan. This is a good thing for pregnant women and the elderly. Although there are some limitations to the use of PET CT, it's becoming an increasingly common tool for cancer treatment. If you're pregnant or have a health condition, you shouldn't worry.

After a few hours, the patient is positioned in the PET-CT device. The patient is usually positioned in a supine position and has arms resting on his or her sides. The patient is in a scout view. The operator delineates the caudal limits of the body scan. The device then takes an image from the base of the skull to the proximal femura.

The PET-CT scanner is a hybrid of two imaging methods. The first uses a radiopharmaceutical to visualize processes in the body. The second, a CT scan uses x-rays to visualize organ structures. It is a more detailed imaging than a PET-CT scan, and the resulting images are clearer and more accurate. It also has the advantage of reducing the radiation dose and the scan time, which makes it a desirable option for patients with a busy schedule.
