Staining troughs
A trough is a glass dish with a loose lid. This is one of the most important microscope accessories. It holds 20 slides horizontally and ten vertically. A drop-on lid is included. The trough is 85 x 105 mm in size. The trough has a drop-on lid and should be used for cold water only. Clean the trough with a neutral or slightly alkaline solution.
When applying the stain to slides, always make sure that the slide is completely dry. After staining, the slide should be left in an unheated room for one to two hours. After this, the slides should be fixed with absolute methanol and removed from the slide. This solution is safe for use and can be reused many times. Once the sample has been staining, the slides should be re-stripped in alcohol or methanol and stored in a refrigerator until they are ready for use.
Various types of troughs are available to stain samples. The most common are soda lime glass and stainless steel. A variety of trough sizes is available. Most contain two to five uL of blood. Ensure the edge is feathered when applying the stain. After the staining process, the slides should be completely dried in an oven at 37°C or overnight at low humidity. After the slide dries, fix the thin film with absolute methanol.
Staining troughs are made of stainless steel or acetal. They are designed to hold up to twelve microscope slides. They are available with specific dimensions and thickness. Some staining jars have multiple layers and are made of sodalime glass or stainless steel. Unlike other types of troughs, they can be used repeatedly and are extremely useful for experimentation. The staining process can take several hours, so the holder is the ideal tool for many scientists.
There are many types of staining troughs. Some are made of acetal or stainless steel and fit the size of microscope slides. Other types include jars for assorted color and a rack to hold up to 12 different types of jars. Whether you prefer stainless steel or sodalime glass, staining troughs are the perfect solution for your stained specimens.
