Magnetic therapy uses an electromagnetic coil placed on the patient's head to generate an electrical current that is directed toward the brain. Although the electricity generated by the coil does not directly go into the person's head, the electrical current is transmitted through the person's skull via the magnetic field. The therapy is a form of transcranial stimulation. It is currently being used as a complementary therapy in patients with major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The procedure involves a general anesthesia, which will be accompanied by the use of electrodes. These electrodes are connected to wires on the body that are linked to battery-operated generators located in the chest. These wires send a continuous stream of electrical pulses to the brain. These pulses reset a malfunctioning area in the brain. Researchers have seen positive results from using TMS to treat a variety of conditions.

TMS is used to treat many mental disorders. In addition to treating major depression, TMS can help traumatic brain injury victims exercise their damaged limbs and relieve pain caused by post-traumatic stress. It can even help with post-traumatic stress disorder and post-amputee pain syndrome. The potential benefits of brain stimulation can drastically alter the way mental health issues are treated. A study published in 2005 by the Journal of Neuroscience and Treatment suggests that TMS is a safe and effective therapy for these conditions.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease affecting the nervous system. People with this condition are often unable to move or speak properly, so the effects of TMS are significant. In a recent study, researchers used TMS to treat patients with multiple sclerosis, which causes spasticity and difficulty moving. In this study, TMS was shown to reduce the spasticity in the motor cortex. This was an excellent result.

The research into TMS is ongoing, and the results are not yet conclusive. However, some researchers have seen positive results. The research has shown that TMS can improve the condition of multiple sclerosis patients and reduce their pain. But, despite its limitations, the research on TMS is largely limited in its effectiveness. In a clinical trial, TMS was proven to significantly improve motor skills in the subject's left prefrontal cortex.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation has been approved by the FDA for treating major depressive disorder (MDD). Flow headsets with electrodes attach to the head are used for this procedure. They are worn by the patient and work with the patient's own brain to prevent the development of side effects. The H-coil is a new technology used by Johns Hopkins' Brain Stimulation Program for patients with depression. This device is connected to the brain through the head and gives them a feeling of security.
