Vertebral bone replacement

Vertebral bone replacement

There are several types of vertebral replacement implants available. The earliest ones used a centrally located endplate and a lateral one. The latter one is rectangular and has additional apophyseal support. Both endplate types were used to replace the thoracic (T12) and lumbar (L3) vertebrae. The angulation of the endplates was chosen based on the lordosis of the specimen.

Today, many implants are made from a combination of PEEK and Optima HA, which allow the surgeon to achieve the desired height and lordosis. With this technology, the surgeon can even adjust the implant's angle and height to correct the curvature. The new device is filled with bone graft material and then inserted into the spinal canal. A metal stabilization plate is attached to the spine, locking the vertebrae together and preventing the implant from moving during the healing process. After surgery, the incision is closed and the patient can return to work and physical activities.

The vertebral replacement implant endplate is one of the most important components of the new device. Its purpose is to stabilize the spine. In this type of procedure, screws or pedicle screws are used to attach the endplate to the vertebrae. A third type uses rods and hooks to connect vertebrae. It has been found to preserve the patient's normal range of motion. It is a popular option for patients with traumatic fractures, because it preserves range of motion.

The implants are often made of titanium or stainless steel. The screws are threaded through the vertebra to provide a secure anchor to the spine. Surgical professionals attach rods or plates to the rods to provide additional stability to the device. These devices are designed to be as close as possible to the natural structure of the vertebra. The goal is to restore normal spinal function. This is done by repairing the damaged disc or restoring the height of the spine.

In the cervical spine, implants are inserted through the vertebral body. In both cases, the implants are anchored with screws. The screws are usually made of titanium and stainless steel. They are designed to reduce spinal deformities. They are also designed to be as secure as possible to prevent further damage. Some pros and cons of these devices include their cost, invasive surgery, and long-term results. The pros and cons of these devices vary greatly.

There are two types of vertebral replacement implants. The first is made from titanium and is more expensive than the other two. Despite the higher cost, it is a safer alternative to spinal fusion, which permanently joins two or more vertebral bodies. Besides the cost, the artificial implants are also much more comfortable to wear than a natural one. They do not require any surgical intervention and are often better for your health than a standard titanium disc.
