Despite the high cost and limited shelf life of Xray tubes, their use in medical imaging continues to grow. To prevent accidental damage, the tube should be properly warm up before each exposure. This can be done at the beginning of the day or after the equipment has been in storage for three hours or more. The manufacturer of an X-ray tube will provide recommended warm-up and maximum-load exposures. Read on to learn more about proper X-ray tube maintenance.

X-ray tubes must maintain a high vacuum to work properly. As such, the vacuum inside the tube may gradually decrease over time, causing the glass to deteriorate. The anticathode is similar to the cathode, except it is connected to anode instead of the other way around. The anticathode has a small glass window, and the anode is connected to the glass. During normal use, the anode is the part of the tube that receives the incoming electrons.

The glass envelope of an x-ray tube contains a 5-cm-wide window for viewing the image. The housing catches x-rays traveling in the other direction. Anode target is the area where the stream of incoming electrons hits. The anode is made of tungsten steel or copper, which are chemically compatible with glass. When it comes to durability, the x-ray tube should have at least two years of life.

The cathode and anode are enclosed in a protective metal housing. The cathode converts electron energy to X-rays and dissipates the heat. The X-ray tube is housed inside an envelope made of glass or ceramic. The housing also protects the patient from excess radiation. The window is typically made of beryllium, a material that allows X-rays to pass through while retaining the vacuum.

X-ray tubes can be shortened by a high-voltage supply. The more power applied, the lower the X-ray tube's output. A low-voltage operating system will not be able to obtain the requisite pixel intensity, as the X-ray system's voltages must be regulated to avoid these problems. Further, the higher the operating temperature, the more likely it is to burn out.

X-ray tubes have a glass enclosure that traps the electrons in a magnetic field. The tube is enclosed in a vacuum to avoid heat from escaping. Moreover, the cathode is connected to the negative side of the electrical circuit and is the main source of X-rays. Hence, the anode is connected to the positive side of the circuit. The cathode is the main source of electrons.

X-ray tubes are characterized by their size and structure. The cylindrical tube is roughly 2mm wide and a few centimeters long, and its shape and design are important for detecting disease. A typical x-ray tube has two focusing cups that control the flow of the electrons. The X-rays produced are very high-quality. When the tubes are not working properly, they will not be able to produce the desired image.
