NRGS strategy is taking shape

(10/2021) Government with update on the further development and implementation process of the National Reserve Health Protection (NRGS). THW becomes the central logistics hub.

At the beginning of June 2020, the federal government decided to set up a national reserve for health protection (NRGS) based on initial experiences with the corona pandemic. In July, the Federal Cabinet provided more detailed information on the project based on an interim report. The report provides an overview of the activities to date to establish the NRGS and the plans for further development. Protective masks, ventilators and medicines are permanently stored as a precaution for future crises. The National Reserve is intended for three scenarios: pandemics, in case of defense (if many injured people have to be treated) and if supply chains from abroad break off. For this purpose, a joint national competence center of the federal and state governments is being set up at the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) in order to connect all important actors in civil protection in one interface.
