Argon beamer
Argon plasma coagulation, or APC for short, is a highly recurrent warm cycle that is used to coagulate tissue (e.g. as part of a bronchoscopy).
Starting at a small end of the range, a current is emitted into the tissue. The current is returned to the high return device through an un-biased anode on the patient's thigh.
With argon plasma coagulation, the current is sent as a flash through an ionized argon gas stream via an argon beamer, whereby the advancing heat triggers the protein denaturation. When in doubt, the argon plasma fly concentrates on slime films, as these have the highest conductivity.
It should be remembered that a highly flammable gas will escape when argon plasma coagulation is used in an oxygen-rich environment.
