The basic concept of the proposed pump involves a microchannel in which the liquid is transported smoothly through the use of successively actuated membranes. Externally compressed air is forced into the microchannel through a pneumatic tube. This produces a reciprocating activating effect, which accelerates the fluid along the microchannel. The series of operations performed in the proposed micropump is suitable for smooth transportation of liquids. The design parameters are based on the location distance (d) from the front rim of the air chambers to the position of the active check valve.

The proposed pump is composed of three PDMS-based layers, including an air chamber, an actuation membrane, and an active check valve. The connected air channel is 0.1 mm wide, while the fluidic channel is 17.5 mm long, 2.0 mm wide, and 1.0 m deep. The active check valve is located at the bottom and is designed to prevent backflow. It is possible to manufacture the entire pump in the same way as a commercially available model.
