A wooden ladder, great ambitions and several of our surgical lights - this is how our journey on the Chinese market began in 1994. Today we operate our own location in Shanghai, where we employ 33 people, and have a local, comprehensive network of specialist trade partners in all over China. 1896
Ludwig Leibinger founds Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik in Mühlheim an der Donau near Tuttlingen. The company initially focuses on the manufacture of surgical instruments. Numerous product innovations and global expansion followed.
Today, in addition to more than 16,000 instruments, we offer implant systems for oral and maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, traumatology and hand surgery as well as high-frequency surgery devices, surgical laser systems, operating lights, medical supply units and individual room solutions for various clinical environments, such as operating theaters or intensive care units.
We sell our products in over 140 countries worldwide and operate 17 marketing and sales locations as well as four company-owned production facilities.
1994
The first orders for our surgical lights are installed in China.
2010
We open a representative office. We choose Shanghai as our location, for a number of reasons: The city is lively, full of culture, history and, above all, future potential! With more than 25 million inhabitants and an impressive skyline, Shanghai is one of the most important metropolises in the world.
2017
We convert the representative office into a subsidiary. At this time we employ 13 people in the areas of marketing and sales.
2020
We are celebrating 10 years of KLS Martin Medical Shanghai. Since the company was founded, our product portfolio and the number of our local experts has increased significantly. Today, 25 colleagues take care of the sale of maxillofacial implants, instruments, products in the field of high-frequency surgery and surgical lights as well as logistics, customer service, quality management, personnel management and regulatory affairs.
2021
The time has come for an expansion - we are moving to a larger office with a product showroom for our partners and customers, where our products can be experienced and tried out live. For example, on-site product training is also possible.

Going forward, we want to build on our previous journey and heritage and keep improving. Above all, this includes the further promotion of training and further education of clinical staff through cooperation with scientific partners such as the Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group (SORG) and the Electrosurgical Expert Group (ESEG) as well as continued local and personal contact for our customers and specialist trade partners.
