€ 3 million EU funding for PHOTO-SENS: Photonic biosensor platform for aquaculture
The European Commission has awarded a “Fast Track to Innovation” (FTI) grant of € 3 million to a consortium of 5 companies in order to develop a photonic biosensor platform for aquaculture applications entire value chain: production of photonic biochips (Surfix, NL), photonic packaging (PHIX, NL), microfluidic integration (CSEM, CH), device production (LRE Medical, D) and diagnostic services for aquaculture (Tunatech, D). The consortium will work on the industrialization of the platform and the reduction of manufacturing costs, based on a previously developed prototype. PHOTO-SENS will focus on DNA-based diagnostic applications in aquaculture, such as: B. the detection of salmon pathogens and the early sex differentiation of sturgeons, and thus contribute to a sustainable food supply chain and global food security for future generations.
