Digitalization in the healthcare system is increasingly becoming the focus of politics and the public. The desire for simplified billing processes or more detailed documentation of vital data requires that this data be captured and recorded. However, recording presents new challenges for clinics and medical device manufacturers, as a lot of manual work is still necessary to enter the data into a central system such as a KIS (hospital information system) or PDMS (patient data management system). Although the data on the medical devices at the patient's bedside is usually already available in digital form, the interfaces of the individual devices are usually proprietary and rarely compatible with one another. In addition to the large number of different manufacturers, there is also a wide age range that characterizes the clinics' equipment fleet. It is not uncommon for devices to be in use that are 10 years or older.

Against this background, it is clear that there is a need for action and those responsible must take a courageous step towards the digitalization of everyday hospital life. Many clinics have already taken this step, but others are still having difficulty making the decision.

Based on the requirements of the medical industry, TZM has developed the Universal Medical Gateway - UMG - which opens up completely new ways to network and connect medical devices. Regardless of the age of the device and regardless of the manufacturer, UMG is able to receive, convert and forward the data from a medical device to any target system.
