In order to control the interaction between cells/patient tissue and medical devices and for the purpose of improved therapies, special surface functionalizations and technologies for biologizing the surfaces are being developed more and more frequently. An interesting example are coatings with a thickness of less than 1 µm (nano-coatings), which can influence numerous biological functions. In order to place such products on the market, a number of requirements must be met. In the seminar, examples will be presented and important, common methods for quality assessment and characterization of such products / coatings and their manufacturing processes will be explained. The seminar will focus, among other things, on suitable analytical methods for characterizing such extremely thin layers. With regard to MDR-2017/745, the regulatory aspects are also taken into account.
