Mineral oil components in peanuts

Botanically, peanuts do not belong to the group of nuts as one might assume - but they are definitely delicious! And they are also healthy because they provide magnesium and protein.

However, a recent test also found mineral oil components in three samples. MOSH has been specifically proven, which can accumulate in the organs, especially the liver.

There are currently no limit values for MOSH in food, but work is already being carried out on a corresponding regulation and until then it will apply that the exposure should be as low as possible.

It is assumed that mineral oil components get into the food via lubricating oils in the systems or packaging plastics.

The mold toxins aflatoxins are also often found in nuts, but none of them were detected in the above test. Especially when nuts come from warmer regions, there is always a risk of contamination with aflatoxins.

According to Regulation (EU) No. 165/2010 , the maximum level for aflatoxins in peanuts, which are intended for direct consumption, is 2.0 µg / kg.

Bilacon checks your products so that your peanuts can be marketed safely and with high quality. In addition to the analysis of mineral oil components and aflatoxins, we support you with the complete analysis spectrum of heavy metals, 3-MCPD, microbiological analyzes and labeling tests.
