In times of Corona, working and learning are currently only possible in digital form from home for many. GS1 Germany , together with atrify and the European EPC Competence Center GmbH (EECC), successfully staged the premiere of the “HackerSchool by GS1” on April 16 and 17. The aim is to sustainably strengthen the digital skills of children and young people and to introduce the young participants to the world of programming in virtual workshops. Writing code creates a basic understanding of how our digital world works. With the “ Hacker School @ Home ” series of events, we can relieve parents of childcare for at least a few hours in the home office. On the other hand, a future-relevant skill such as programming is learned in a playful way. The offer ranges from Scratch to p5.js. The children and young people are taken by the hand by experienced IT professionals, the so-called inspirers. After the introduction, the participants work on their projects in small groups and then receive precise feedback.

At the start on April 16th and 17th, 11 children aged 10-14 were taught the programming language “Scratch”. Scratch is a great way to familiarize beginners with the basic concepts of programming. The children were there with great enthusiasm and very eager to learn. Own games were implemented independently in 2-3 groups with a lot of vigor .

The second session will deal with “creative coding” with the programming language p5.js. p5.js is a JavaScript library and is intended for coding for artists, designers, educators and much more. to make accessible. Further dates have already been set. Here is an overview and registration: https://hacker-school.de/home/

Since the courses are to be offered nationwide for as many children and young people as possible, the Hacker School has launched the so-called Inspirer Challenge. This requires committed IT specialists who support the Hacker School and offer these courses @home on a voluntary basis. More information at: https://hacker-school.de/inspirerchallenge/
