While pictures were previously considered “nice-to-have”, from February 2023 they will become a must-have. This makes data exchange with at least one product image mandatory for data providers.

Initially, the requirement only applies to new products from the food, near-food, non-food and DIY sectors , the data for which is sent from A to B in the German target market . Data providers must therefore provide at least one product image via the GDSN for each GTIN, otherwise the master data will neither be displayed nor sent to the data recipients from February 2023. Sounds strict, but it is of great benefit to everyone.

More data. More customers. More sales.

“Demands on data quality continue to increase due to increasing product variety, growing e-commerce and legal regulations. "

Missing image data can now be a direct exclusion criterion in the world of e-commerce: understandably. Because who wants to buy a pig in a poke when there is the possibility of digital assets? In addition to product images from different perspectives, digital assets also include audio files, certificates, videos, advertising materials, safety data sheets and scientific documents. All these files are managed with just a few clicks via a digital asset management system and entered centrally in the GDSN. Trading partners can access the systems directly and use the entire data package for all publications and sales channels.

All details on digital systems are comprehensively documented in the “ Application recommendation for the creation of product images and media assets for strategic brand management and successful content marketing ” from GS1 Germany.
