Timo recently successfully completed his training as an IT specialist for system integration with us by taking his final exam at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Timo started his apprenticeship at atrify almost three years ago and we are very pleased that we will be able to employ him as a permanent employee in the IT & Security department afterwards. We warmly congratulate Timo on completing his apprenticeship and look forward to further cooperation. In order to review the apprenticeship together with Timo, we took the opportunity and asked him to give us a closer look at his experiences over the past few years.

Congratulations on successfully completing your training, Timo! How would you describe your experiences that you gained during your apprenticeship with us?
Timo Meßner (TM): Generally you learn to work independently very quickly. For example, I worked independently on internal projects to improve our Cologne IT infrastructure. Nevertheless, there were also stressful times, especially when switching to atrify, a lot had to be adjusted and new processes introduced.
What did you like best about your apprenticeship?
TM: Ultimately, the internal projects. When we introduced something new, you had to deal with it independently. It was great that you could accompany the entire planning and introduction of new solutions and that you saw permanent added value. What I enjoyed most was process improvement and project management.
How was your training structured?
TM: I was in internal IT for the first 4 months. I then went to Sales Administration and did a lot of work on Excel evaluations. Then I switched to marketing. I didn't enjoy this department because the focus here was mainly on editing our website. Then I got to know the development including the programming language Java. That was also a very exciting time. By the end of my apprenticeship, I was back in internal IT.
How did you like the vocational school?
TM: It was very special, but it is also the only school in Cologne. The teachers were sometimes disinterested, but some were also good.
How was your final exam structured?
TM:
It consisted of two parts: Part 1 was the final written examination (specialist qualification in the form of word tasks; core qualification + business part in the form of multiple choice). Part 2 was an internal project (aim: improve the existing process or introduce a new process). The project had to be approved in advance by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. In addition, a process-oriented report had to be written and a presentation had to be prepared. The presentation was then presented in the oral exam, followed by a technical discussion. My project consisted of evaluating and implementing a backup solution that would fully secure our IT systems. This solution has also been implemented successfully.
Did you always feel that you were being adequately looked after by the company during your apprenticeship?
TM: Yeah, definitely. I received adequate care and support from Benjamin as well as from my colleagues in the other departments. When switching to atrify, many things were left behind. During this time we didn't have any projects, but I learned a lot from the change!
Is there anyone in the company who has given you special support?
TM: Yes, Benjamin and Thorben, but I was also supported by all the other colleagues during my training.
