Tuttlingen - SmartVigilance opens up the possibility of having PMS activities supported by artificial intelligence: In cooperation with MedicalMountains GmbH, a series of events will start on July 29th at which the platform and the process will be presented live.

Manufacturers of medical devices are obliged to monitor the performance of their products on the market and to take appropriate measures to eliminate defects or minimize risks. SmartVigilance uses artificial intelligence to support Post-Market Surveillance (PMS): The platform collects reports on adverse events and publications on medical devices. It accesses databases such as MAUDE, the reporting portals of BfArm, SwissMedic and MHRA as well as literature databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library and others. Search results are analyzed, evaluated and documented in accordance with regulations. SmartVigilance makes the PMS more reliable and relieves companies in the medical technology industry.

The one-hour webinar series presents the benefits and advantages as well as the methodical approach of SmartVigilance. A live presentation of the platform uses different data sources to show the AI-supported PMS process from planning to the report.

The "SmartVigilance" research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Science and Research started in August 2019. The partners Averbis GmbH, DHC Business Solutions and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence have set themselves the goal of making post-market surveillance for medical technology even more efficient and thus indirectly increasing patient safety. As a cooperation partner, MedicalMountains GmbH is the communication interface into the medical technology industry.

The aim of the project is a new service platform that will simplify market observation (post market surveillance) and risk assessment of medical devices and make them more reliable. State-of-the-art technologies and methods of artificial intelligence (AI) are used.
