Tuttlingen/Villingen-Schwenningen - Mascha Eckhardt from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism got an idea of what the regional AI lab KIM-Labs can achieve as part of her AI lab tour: During a visit to Project partner Hahn-Schickard in Villingen-Schwenningen showed the initiative what impulses are set to promote artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovations.

Mascha Eckhardt, who works in Department 31 for Industrial and Technology Policy and Digitalization, found out about the project progress at KIM-Labs - and thus about the diverse offerings and innovative demonstrators in the field of AI. Under the consortium leadership of MedicalMountains GmbH, the association consists of Furtwangen University, Hahn-Schickard and TechnologyMountains eV. They reported on activities and events that have been implemented so far as part of the project and gave an outlook on what will be offered further.

The “KIM-Labs” project focuses on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through information events, consulting days, demonstrators, test phases before investments and awareness training, KIM-Labs offers SMEs direct access to a comprehensive range of skills and partnerships in the field of artificial intelligence.

KIM-Labs is largely shaped by the collaboration and expertise of its partners. They contribute to the realization of the project with their structures and networks. These partnerships give the broad SME landscape direct access to AI know-how and promote its transfer into company practice. “The visit from the ministry makes it clear how important artificial intelligence and digitalization are for the transformation of industry and confirms our efforts within KIM-Labs to make these technologies accessible to smaller companies,” says Britta Norwat from the consortium leader MedicalMountains GmbH emphasized the importance of the visit.

During the visit to Hahn-Schickard, Mascha Eckhardt learned about a practical example from the hosts: the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to precisely locate and remove waste. This technology combines GPS data with high-resolution image processing and makes it possible to efficiently locate abandoned waste sites and optimize cleaning processes.

A highlight at the end of the visit was the tour of Hahn-Schickard's clean room. The extensive sensor production facility with state-of-the-art production processes and technological innovations impressed not only the visitor from the ministry.

“We are pleased about Ms. Eckhardt's interest and enthusiasm for the projects that are being developed here at Hahn-Schickard and as part of the 'KIM Lab'. Your visit underlines the importance of such collaborations and initiatives, which make it easier for companies to access groundbreaking technologies and help them strengthen their innovation capacities,” commented Marcus Rüb, research associate in the area of artificial intelligence at Hahn-Schickard.

Mascha Eckhardt's visit highlights the importance of initiatives such as KIM Labs, which advance the integration of AI and offer companies direct access to important resources and networks. The KIM-Labs project partners agree: “Collaborations like this are crucial to establishing the Baden-Württemberg region as a pioneer in digital transformation.”

  • If you would like to discover the potential of AI and find out where the possibilities of its use in the company lie, we recommend the next free consultation day as part of KIM Labs: The next opportunity is on February 7th. More information at this link.
