Tuttlingen - Shorter development times, lower costs and fewer clinical tests are among the advantages: Under the premise "Data instead of guessing", a symposium on March 2nd in Tuttlingen will show "How simulation and data analytics are taking the medical technology industry to a new level ” – and where practical applications have already gained a foothold.

In areas such as the automotive industry, it is a common process: Before a component is manufactured and finally used, process parameters are coordinated using a digital image, possible weak points are discovered and behavior in the real environment is predicted. What not so long ago had to follow the principle of “trial and error” is now done by computing power. Can this model be transferred to medical technology? How do simulation and data analytics help save resources and become more innovative? The symposium on March 2 will provide answers.

The basis is laid by the impulse lectures by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael M. Resch (High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart and Institute for High Performance Computing), Christoph Gümbel (future matters AG), Dr. Andreas Wierse (SICOS BW GmbH) and Prof. Dr. Martin Haimerl (Furtwangen University). The practical application of simulation in medical technology will be highlighted, among others, by Frank Reinauer (KLS Martin Group) using the example of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and Prof. Dr. Thomas M. Grupp (Aesculap AG) during navigated knee endoprosthetics. Dr.-Ing. Sven Herrmann (Simq GmbH).

When talking about simulation, one thing is needed above all: data. They must first be collected, then evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively and processed in their entirety. The second part of the symposium is dedicated to this complex. One of the best practices is the contribution by Furtwangen University on how surgical data is recorded live and evaluated with artificial intelligence (AI). Possible cooperation between medical technology companies and clinics reflects Dr. Britta Lang (University Hospital Freiburg). The benefits of AI-based data analysis for post-market surveillance are presented by Dr. Heike Sander (DHC Business Solutions GmbH & Co. KG). The insights and perspectives gained are deepened in joint discussion rounds.

The impetus for the event came from the recently completed vision process for medical technology in south-west Germany. "The companies involved have worked out that digitization, data and thus simulation are becoming increasingly important for medical technology," recalls Yvonne Glienke, Managing Director of MedicalMountains GmbH. "The symposium is a first step towards implementing this result." The aim is to give companies impetus, remove uncertainties and provide assistance in using the new opportunities for themselves.

The symposium "Data instead of guessing: How simulation and data analytics are taking the medical technology industry to a new level", organized by MedicalMountains GmbH, will take place on March 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Tuttlingen town hall.
