Treatment options for corona are being researched

Vaccine development in the fight against Corona is in full swing. "However, there will be no more vaccine for the current wave of corona infections," said Marylyn Addo, head of infectious diseases at the University Clinic in Hamburg Eppendorf, on Deutschlandfunk. The scientist is currently researching a vaccine with the help of BINDER cabinets and is also conducting clinical studies on drugs that are currently used for severe coronavirus disease.

Until a vaccine is found, doctors can only treat the symptoms of the disease. On the one hand, oxygen and fluids are administered and, on the other hand, antibiotics are used to treat accompanying bacterial infections. In even more severe cases, i.e. when doctors are fighting for the life of a patient, drugs that were developed for other diseases are sometimes used. However, there are still no precise findings as to how well these funds help, but this is precisely why clinical studies are being carried out in Hamburg, for example.

Two preparations in particular give rise to hope: on the one hand, Kaletra, which was already used in the Sars epidemic in 2002/2003. This agent is approved as an HIV agent in the form of juice and tablets and can be administered on a case-by-case basis.

The second drug used in the wake of COVID-19 is called remdesivir . This drug was originally developed to treat Ebola, but was ultimately not approved due to its unconfirmed effectiveness. According to initial findings, it looks different with Corona. Since the agent is not approved, however, each administration must be applied for from the manufacturer and the supervisory authority of the respective federal state. Nevertheless, this means also gives hope.

A third drug called chloroquine , which is approved in China for the treatment of malaria and rheumatism, is also being tested in BINDER cabinets. The American President, Donald Trump, has already called the drug a "miracle of God". Clinical studies have yet to confirm this. But here, too, the BINDER cabinets will help and the scientists will find an answer as quickly as possible.
