BioFix interim prosthesis knee with antibiotic (gentamicin)
The BioFix Interim Knee Prosthesis is a temporarily implanted spacer that aids in the management of infected knee prostheses. The method is applied in two stages: in the first stage, the infected prosthesis is removed and the spacer is inserted. In the second phase, when the infection has healed, the spacer is removed and the definitive prosthesis positioned in place.
The procedure offers various advantages in terms of the patient's quality of life during the treatment of the infection and facilitates the revision surgery, both in the positioning of the final prosthesis and in the rehabilitation of the patient.
The temporary knee prosthesis is a sterile, ready-to-use implant that is available in many sizes. It consists of two independent elements - tibial and femoral - designed to achieve maximum balance between implant and patient, as well as a rapid application process. The tibial component consists of a planar base to which the femoral component articulates. Both components are placed in the area where the removed prosthesis was and fixed to the bone with bone cement mixed with antibiotic.
Notes on packaging and sterility:
This BioFix knee spacer is available in a box with the instructions for use and an ETO sterilized double blister with an interim knee prosthesis.
Composition:
BioFix Spacer is made from PMMA bone cement loaded with high concentrations of antibiotics (gentamicin).
